I'm always looking for new music, and like sharing my music, so I thought I'd start a thread about local bands. I'll just post two for now: Dignan and They Mean Us. Dignan is the one band at shows people will dance. I love dancing like an idiot at shows. When they play Listen, it's awesome. www.myspace.com/dignanThey Mean Us is actually one of the best instrumental bands I've heard. They aren't a rip off of Explosions In The Sky like so many that i've heard, they have a really good sound and the guys are super cool. www.myspace.com/tmuAlso, here's a video I took of Dignan on my dad's camera a year ago: myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=11385726

Ra ra riot formed in my hometown. uhh, other than that, i guess there is my brothers band Deer Park Elementary, and a pretty good band called White After Labor Day. Deer Park is like catchy, indie country. its a lot better than you'd expect. White After Labor Day is really really ridiculously good piano and cello rock. I don't know too much of what's local as I hit shows in a variety of places. Here's one from the Dodo's show tonight though, which is kinda Mogwai sounding being, you know, ambient rock. Just a bit louder/heavier than Mogwai at times. www.myspace.com/sunlightascending

Lolz, we have a bunch of crappy hardcore bands too. There really isn't much else to do in Harlingen other than go to shows, hit up South Padre Island, and eat mexican food.

I don't know any KC-area bands. I do get to see "the daemons" perform next month in Manhattan, KS though. They are based out of Lawrence, KS...and Brooklyn, NY If any of you listen to "Harry and the Potters," the band is one of the Potters and his girlfriend. They are acoustic and I've gotten to see them perform once before at a library where they sat on a couple chairs and we all sat on the floor. And they even taught us a chorus of one of their songs and had us sing along. Lawrence, KS is a very happening music place.

I love love love the Nashville music scene, it is not just country, like some might think. I think there is a band for everyone. We are most known for Kings of Leon, the Raconteurs, and the now broken up, Be Your Own Pet. And the funny thing about all of these bands I am listing is that I have seen a good percentage around town, haha. The Features is one of my favorite Nashville bands. They are all really nice guys and have a great sound. www.myspace.com/thefeaturesThe Privates are really great. They are really catchy, yet have a great rock sound. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=2523528De Novo Dahl is a really fun band who has gotten some national attention. I think they are fantastic. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=490523All We Seabees just released a fantastic album. "Alt County" is a great song. www.myspace.com/allweseabeesHands Down Eugene is another great Nashville band. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=15071749The Carter Administration is another favorite of mine. "Malcom and Marr" is a great song. profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=4478372Turbo Fruits is made up of two former BYOP members. Great band. www.myspace.com/turbofruitsThen their is the label Infinity Cat, which has some fantastic bands on it. Its a small record label, but they are really nice. Here are some bands on that label: Jeff the Brotherhood: profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=36006546Cake Bake Betty: profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=11120782Meemaw: profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=187243082Well, there you go! I hope you guys find at least one band you like!
