YES! a record full of rarities, yes please. Also, I do hope they include Asia (not just Japan!) in their tour. Really hoping they will at least stop by Singapore, or better yet, here in the Philippines.

That song better be on it or I'll have to bribe someone to sneak it on.
I hope the album is only songs that Polyvinyl hasn't offered (not even acoustic/demo versions). So nothing off the Puzzle split, Not Worth Fighting, Broom, Pershing, Let It Sway, or their bonus tracks. I think it would be fine to use any non-Polyvinyl non-cover songs found on Grace & Gwyn splits, SSLY Michael Holt split, Haircuts (split with Nathaniel Carroll), Tape Club, Kickstarter, Buffetlibre, Fast Forward, PEACE, etc. Of course I'd really love to get some recordings I've not heard before, preferably low-fi and acoustic with sweet sweet jangly guitars and maybe some slightly out-of-tune piano as well.

I'm excited that they're cool enough to get a rarities album....but what could they put on there that we don't already have?

I thought that maybe there might be more Tape Club songs? Was anyone on here a member of the original Tape Club that had the actual cassette tapes? I know Chris Walla was a member, but I can't ask him directly I guess I could ask Phil and Will at their show here next week.

I'm also wondering if some of the songs will be re-recorded or if they're going to stick to more originals.

I doubt they'll re-record stuff. You just can't beat that fuzzy, hazy charm. That's why broom was so perfect

I agree. In my opinion a rarity is a recording that already exists, hasn't had professional mixing and distribution, may have been heard by some friends but hasn't been available to the general public, could still be sitting on a hard drive, rough CD, mixtape, etc.
P.S. I didn't get the chance last night to ask them about the rarities album, but Phil did say they're doing a Daytrotter session this weekend.

Hm, I guess Daytrotter isn't till Sept now. It was going to be last Saturday but I guess something came up between Thu & Sat and it got rescheduled.

I listened to the audio of a podcast show they did for a local Springfield podcast/radio show. It was Will and Phil performing a couple numbers and answering a few question from the people running the podcast. Phil said the rarities album is out in Sept, they're busy working on it, and it'll have ~20 songs. I also heard last week or so that one song that might be on there is a new one about the old 'three missing women' mystery: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Springfield_Three
