I just made myself a playlist with the new songs, including Letter Divine though I've heard that one live a couple times and have two Daytrotter Barnstormer 2009 recordings of it that I bought off the Daytrotter website that I've listened to a lot. I like all the new songs. Song 1000 makes me think of Nirvana with kazoos
SSLYBY has always reminded me of the Beatles in that there are four of them, 2.5 of them are songwriters, they have both humorous and serious songs, cover lots of sub-genres of pop within their discography, and have a variety of both rocking out music and gentle acoustic music. (Maybe John Rob is John, Phil is Paul, Will is George, and Jonathan is Ringo, but of course their roles do change as they switch around instruments.) I hope some day someone writes a book about SSLYBY's songwriting styles, especially John and Phil. I think they contrast and complement each other well. All four of the band members draw some of their influences from the same bands and music, but they all also have their many separate favorites as well. Toss in the fact that many of them can play multiple instruments and they aren't afraid to put out demos and B-sides and you get this amazing band that never gets old for me.

I still want to do this, but maybe sometime in Sept when everyone's had the chance to listen to the album enough for it to sink in.

I like SSLYBY because they f**king rule. And doing a group listening thing sounds cool and I definitely want to do it. I'm just a little busy right now.
Also there is not one single SSLYBY song that I dislike. I think I love every single one of their songs.

It's also weird to think I've been on this forum since I was 16 and now I'm a month and a week away from being 21. Time flies. And how much SSLYBY has grown sonically and in terms of fan base since Broom. I meet people who know who they are without me telling them first.
But I still try (and succeed) to convert people to SSLYBY-ites everywhere I go.

yeah, i think sslyby has been one of the only constant things in my life for the past few years.
on a different note: i think i like the demos just as much (and more in some cases) as any studio recording sslyby has done.

I like switching back and forth because they both help me appreciate the other even better. Kind of like how I like both John's songs and Phil's. The demos I can usually listen to on repeat more. I like soft, pretty songs. But of course I also like to rock out. I went to The New Monsters Collective CD release show on Friday (Phil's sister's band that Will plays bass for) and Will told me that Phil wanted to see what Dead Right sounded like with John singing/playing, and that's where the "Dead Right (Wilmington demo)" came from. I love when they both sing on a song or they collaborate on writing.

Finally got my pre order! Included as always: Air Heads. Is that a Polyvinyl thing, or a SSLYBY thing?

It's more maroon looking to me. Which is good, because it adds to my already overwhelmingly maroon wardrobe
