I just saw on their website that the opener for the Columbus, OH show is Our Cat Phillip. I'm really tempted to try and make it down to that show.

I think Our Cat Philip is opening for both Ohio shows? ( Cleveland-7/12 & Columbus-7/20). At least that's what Our Cat Philip's myspace says..... I live in Michigan. I am planning on going to the 7/11 Chicago show and maybe the 7/12 Cleveland one. The cleveland one is actually closer to my house. I can only hope.....If you go, see you there!

Where abouts in Michigan? We could consider carpooling. $4 gas and the distance to Chicago is not kind to a wallet. (Cleveland is closer for me too, I just like Chicago better.)
I still want to know where my Michigan show is. When I talked to Phil in Chicago he said they hoped to play in Michigan this summer and that they'd like to go back to Grand Rapids again (where I saw them play twice). I'd rather drive to GR that Chicago or Ohio. Maybe we need to make a Bug-for-a-Michigan-Show task force.

Carpooling is an option. The only thing is, my good friend lives in Chicago and we usually go to shows together so she would want to come too. I usually stay at her place in Chicago whenever I travel around there. I would personally like to go to both shows because I kinda wanna see Our Cat Philip but, we'll see.
I also heard that maybe they wanted to do another Michigan show. (p.s. I was at the Detroit and Grand Rapids shows last spring!) Maybe we should ask a little harder for a Michigan show.
Either way, we still got about a month and I'll keep you posted!
HOORAY FOR MICHIGAN!
p.s. Rochester Hills, MI (me)

Ha! I may have seen you in Grand Rapids then. Did you go to both shows in the spring?
Actually, I have friends in Chicago too whom I am going to try to get to go to the show. (Four alternating "to"s... nice.) And as for Cleveland, yea, there's a month to go. Perhaps in the coming month, we'll figure out what's up.
I think I'll shoot Phil another e-mail soon for fun. Press him about the Michigan show. Also, I need to get back out to GR and hunt done what's-his-face. I talked to him at Founders the night after the Chicago show (I tried again and failed to see Via Audio play) and he mentioned something about trying to get them (SSLYBY) to play a house show. Maybe there's a secret show planned and we just need to get in the know.
And moving one step beyond "Yay, Michigan", I think I need to throw in a "Go Red Wings!" given the season.
I'm in Clarkston, by the way. I'd rather not be.

Just bought and printed off my ticket for their show on june 15th. It's at a smaller, probably smoke-free venue - a place that's also an art gallery. Might be a more intimate experience. Via Audio is playing. Yessss. I loved the backstage numbers/video they recorded with SSLYBY when they were together in Memphis (I believe) in April. I am so excited. A band called Jukebox the Ghost is also performing. www.jukeboxtheghost.com/

I did go to both shows in Spring. Woah for Clarkston! That's close! Let me know what P-hil says about a Michigan show. A house show would so be da bomb diggity! I think Will's brother goes to U of M so maybe they would play there? WHAT WHAT.

Well, in Grand Rapids, I was the dude in the "Catbird Records" shirt they dedicated "I am Warm and Powerful" to when they played Division Ave arts cooperative. Then the Mute Math show, I basically hung out at their table after their set and drank with them. So you may have seen me.
The guy thinking of the house show was the guy they stayed with after the shows (Well, after Mute Math, Will stayed at my place because my friend talked him into it). I can't remember that dude's name though, which makes getting a hold of him a problem. I think it's Carson and I think I have an improved chance of seeing him if I can make it out to a show in Grand Rapids again. He's a cool guy, I'm just horrible with names.
So yea, either I find him and ask him his progress or Phil gets back to me and let's me know of ANY Michigan show. And yep, Will's brother is in Ann Arbor. They stayed there the night after the Chicago show but took the night off from playing a show.

Carson sounds familiar because my friend Laurel & I actually had some late dinner with Phil, John and Jonathon at a place after the Grand Rapids show and one of the guys that went with us was named Carson. haha! Small world! Hopefully a Michigan show will be plausible....it's about time.

Phil got back to me (He says there's over 400 unread e-mails right now. Ouch): He agrees that a lack of a Michigan show is unforgivable. But as to playing here, he didn't say. Maybe they'll try for the next round of tour dates. Also, he's not sure if Our Car Phillip will play the Cleveland show, but Haha Tonka will.

hey meghan, are you planning on meeting up with the band in new york? I kind of want to email them and see if i could take them to lunch or something but I've never been to new york (except when I was really young) so I wouldn't know where to take them. also I'm guessing they would have other people to see and wouldn't want to see someone they've don't know/haven't met and I think I would be really shy. does anyone know if they like hang around after shows to meet fans of whatever? everyone in the forum seems to know them one way or another but all i've done is speak to phil occasionally by email.

Jolie, they definetely like meeting up with fans. Depending on how tired they are, or if they have time before sound check, you should ask them if they'd like to get some food or something. They are all super nice and I think the reason all of us somehow know them is because they are so approachable and wonderful. Don't be shy just ask and see what happens

Yea, they're super nice. Give 'em a heads up and you should be able to meet up with them no problem.

hey jolie, i'm not sure. like it's weird, i speak to phil a lot in emails and at shows and know a few of their friends, etc but i've never really asked to hang out with them. i'll be seeing them in NJ the day before, so i can see if they're doing anything the next day. maybe i'll email them, right now phil is stacked with emails and he just recently answered one of my old onese, so ill feel like a jerk adding on to the pile haha. i've been trying to learn nyc a bit over the past year, i know two cool little places i could recommend to go that are cheap eats. i'll keep in touch, though!

thanks.. I get nervous thinking about what I would even say in there presence. but meeting them just sounds so incredible it would be worth me embarssing myself. I don't know any food places but cheap sounds good. the only one i'm planning to go to is the great jones cafe, but only because the bassist from pavement, mark ibold, works there. oh and the day after their concert theres a free ted leo show which is also exciting even though I don't listen to them nearly as much as I do sslyby.

There were a couple other places I could have put this, but here is pretty good too I guess. Too sleepy to fully care right now I had a great time at the Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin show last night and am pretty sleepy after getting home at 3am, and then getting up for work. Jukebox the Ghost and Via Audio were amazing as well. And I loved the place they all performed. It's a folksy sort of art/photography gallery with multiple rooms, the occasional sofa, etc. No smoke or bar, so my lungs are very happy to not have to spend the next week recovering. And it was an all-ages show, so besides the usual guys that want to be in bands and model-like-looking young women, there were kids, dads, and family members of the bands there too. John Robert got these three little girls up on stage playing tamborine and blowing bubbles. It was awesome. I almost took the bubbles home when we were all standing around after the show, but didn't because I didn't know what I'd do with them. Darn it - I could have brought them home and had them make a reappearance at the Harry and the Potters show in Lawrence, Kansas next month. (One of the SSLYBY guys said a few of them might try and go to it.) This is the first ever picture of me sort of in the same shot as the guys You just see the back of my head. I have the curly dark brown hair and am wearing a hot pink shirt. The little girl on the left is playing air guitar. This is near the beginning of the song, "Oceanographer." C.H. is the guy on the floor near the drums. David Lizmi of the band Via Audio is the guy in the red sleeveless jersey. Can't wait to see SSLYBY again on Aug 2nd.
