I went to my 4th and 5th Harry and the Potters shows this week.
One was like a punk rock show in someone's basement - dark and sweaty, with two muggle punkish bands playing before them and one after them. They stood in the middle of the room with us surrounding them in a tight-knit circle, Paul w/ his acoustic guitar hooked up to a practice amp, and Joe with his saxophone and with a glockenspiel replacing his normal electric keyboard. I've always wanted to go to a show like that. Paul passed out costumes and I ended up dressed like their mascot Wandicorn.
The other was at a library. First time I'd actually seen them at one. There were a ton of kids and parents and a good amount of highschool kids which was really cool. The last song of the show some little girl who couldn't have been more than 3 pushed her way to the front in front of me, dragging her mom all the way. She was determined to rock out. So cute! After the show I walked around downtown Lawrence with Paul, Joe, Paul's girlfriend Meredith, and Meredith's friend Natalie and we listened to 3 junior high girls from the show play ukulele and sing on a street corner, and then we got Asian food and checked out books and art at Natalie's house. We got a little wet walking around in the rain. I got home at midnight both nights and now I'm at work sleepy, but it was worth it.

I made an ice cream base to day. Tomorrow it will be turned into ice cream. I used the Alton Brown recipe for chocolate ice cream www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/chocolate-ice-cream-recipe/index.htmlBut I turned it into a spiced chocolate ice cream by adding: 1/2tsp of cinnamon 1/4tsp of cayenne pepper 1/8tsp of cloves Would have added some allspice if I had some. Or chinese five-spice powder.

I got up early to get to work which I found out I should have stayed home. My boss and everyone else is on vacation, and my interns just decided NOT to show up. So its me, and no one else. I'm dead tired too and would have loved some extra sleep agh.
But I'm meeting my friend Joe for coffee this afternoon and going to my boyfriend's tonight because he is making me dinner. Second half of the day better than the first. I wish I had a couch here to nap though lol.

I moved last week from a tiny studio apartment to a 3 bedroom house with two of my sisters and their two cats. My room is tiny so I like to pretend I live on a boat. I'm still unpacking and there's piles of stuff everywhere. My sisters' cats are really cute and like to get into all sorts of trouble. It's been really hard to not waste all my time taking pictures of them in boxes. P.S. You all will get a big kick out of this... I don't get to see SSLYBY on tour because I'll be out of town when they're in my area. I never go out of town (except to see them) so what are the odds?

Went to the Let It Sway release show in Springfield Saturday night. They didn't play all of the new songs but they're playing more next Sat at their other Springfield CD release show. I doubt I'll be there since I am most likely in Omaha till 6pm that night. Had a really good time. SSLYBY's set was a bit of a blur for me because I was sometimes recording and that takes a lot of my concentration away from the actual show. I've been trying lately to not record any shows because I don't have as much fun when I record because I have to stand so still and quiet and have to keep looking at a little screen instead of the stage. I made an exception this time because it was a CD release show and I knew how much you guys would enjoy seeing the show and feeling a part of it. I really need to get a tripod or something. I have a little Gorilla tripod that wraps around stuff, but there wasn't anything small enough for it to wrap around this time. I recorded at least a few seconds of each song. They're HD and it can take a good 2 hours to upload one 4 minute song, so it will be awhile till they're all up, but here's the first two. I combined many of the shorter clips together in batches, but I kept them all in show-order. Sorry some are really short and sorry I don't have the 3 encore songs. I was standing near the merch table during SSLYBY's set and sometimes lent a hand over there, so I wasn't always able to record. Yep, John's wearing suspenders and Will got his hair cut. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRnbimq9qHYwww.youtube.com/watch?v=G5I3D1ZIyzwwww.youtube.com/watch?v=2TkotQNjt3Qwww.youtube.com/watch?v=ueDkbaOBy9MP.S. Some of my favorite parts of the evening were meeting "your mother"s husband and daughter, as well as a guy friend of Phil's mom that reads the forums (but isn't a member). He was also there with his daughter. Sadly I don't remember the names of either of the dads and daughters. My short-term memory is a little out of whack right now. P.P.S It was the Neils. And it was also Dante and his daughter Natalie Oh, and yes Dante decided to stop lurking and actually join up on the forum

Hey, Sarah, these are awesome! They seem to have gotten a million times better live (I'm just assuming, based on the videos I've seen. I've always been impressed, but now everything sounds even more awesome). And I can't really see, but is that Jonathan singing back-up? I think that making a trip to Japan (if they ever get to go there) will be more than worth it just to see them. I had better start saving up now. LOL

Hi Sarah, You met Rob and Chelsea? I guess they blew my cover. Chel is going to school in STL now and they drove down to surprise the band, but John saw them walking around Springfield before the show and tipped everyone off. They also said everyone sings and dances at the Springfield shows. Back east, the audience mainly nods their head to the beat. (Unless Meghan is in the audience rocking a dollar store tambourine) Most of the time, it's not cool to look like you are enjoying yourself, but that usually doesn't stop us. Thanks for the videos. Bernadette P.S. I got the set list as a consolation prize for being stuck at home in Jersey taking care of my stupid dogs. www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=277805&l=27620eed63&id=100000666732744

Hi Sarah, You met Rob and Chelsea? I guess they blew my cover. Phil actually blew your cover He told me before the show that you were from New Jersey and that your husband and daughter were at the show. John actually dedicated one of the songs to everyone who had come from far away - specifically mentioning New Jersey, so that made me smile. I didn't meet Rob and Chelsea till after the show. I recognized your husband as "Mr Neil" soon as he walked up to the merch table, and then a second later I made the connection that it was your husband and daughter, because I knew Mr Neil was from New Jersey. Sorry you had to stay home with the dogs, but I'm glad you got the setlist. I feel like I practically met you now since I handled that setlist a few times as I was moving stuff around during the evening. kannika- I was standing near the soundboard and the sound is always really good at Randy Bacon's, which is nice because it showcases SSLYBY at their best I think. And yes, Jonathan was singing backup on some songs. P.S. How expensive would it be for you to fly to Australia instead? I thought they were going to try and book some dates there. P.P.S. Oops, I just realized I probably should have put my show post in the live shows thread. That's what I get for posting at 2 in the morning.

Was a total bum today. I'm on day 12 or 13 of shingles. Lucky mine's on my back. When David Letterman had it, he had it on his face. Ew.

Somehow got my sister Becky to come to SSLYBY's show with me in June when they were last here in Kansas City. Yesterday riding in her car I told her she should borrow my SSLYBY CDs sometimes, and that I'd even bought extras to loan out. When we got home I stole her car keys and put Pershing and Let It Sway in her car with her other CDs. Today she tweeted "SslyBy- you win" My work here is complete.
