I don't think he gets enough love.
Sure, SM is great....really great, but the two Preston School of Industry records are pretty solid.
And the song The Ideas of Fire is awesome.
EDIT: Spiral Stairs is Scott Kannburg, guitarist from pavement....for those who didn't know. SM= Stephen Malkmus.

nothing beats the sandals and socks, huge cargo shorts wearing look. GREAT GUY
and I think kennel district was the first pavement song I ever LOVED. to be honest I usually prefer malkmus, but SS's pavement outputs were usually very good. theres an unreleased song 'nothing ever happens' which I like very much as well. and who doesn't like date with ikea?

Oh, and Mussle Rock!
and Painted Soldiers!
I think Spiral Stairs songs were more structured than the more kinda jam-session-y feel to the rest of the material. It's always nice to have that sort of traditional song thrown into the fray of all the SM stuff.
maybe that's why I never like Terror Twilight that much.

or maybe because terror twilight isn't that good. I like carrot rope, billie and you are the light a lot but its not the typical awe inducing pavement that I was spoiled with such records as wowee zowee or slanted and enchanted. theres just this one part in 'the hexx' that I LOVE though, "and I, Iiiiiiiii, saaaw you reading in a parking lot. I, Iaaiiii saaaaaaaaaw you rallying round the parking lot" but that first time when stephen does I-iiiiiiiii is so great, I don't know how to describe it in text, maybe you get what I'm talkling about. I definitely get what you mean about the structured thing, that makes so much sense especially when you think about how spiral's lyrics are a bit more straightforward as well. the music video for painted soldiers rulez too.
speaking of pavement (which I like to do frequently, although none of my friends listen to themthem they still put up with me ranting about sm and company all the time) did anyone get the BTC reissue? although I ordered mine from matador in the buy early get now thang, I still don't have it. I had almost all of the unreleased tracks already so I guess I'm not missing out on much but I'd still like to have the poster.
