Okay kids, WE'RE GOING TO DO IT! So, if you haven't checked out page 42 of the 'What did you do today?' thread, you may want to. Even if you already have your own blog (like I know I and SarahElephant do) DO NOT HESITATE TO SIGN UP. Hey you'll get twice the exposure I guess to get us a wee bit organized, everyone interested sign up formally here Its just will be easier to keep track of. Please put your name, location, and 5 favorite bands. Also, if you are interested in photography, writing or both, (or anything else) I agree with EVERYTHING Sarah W. said. Wordpress is the best way to go I think too. Easy to use and gets the job done well. More on all of this to come. Its just the beginning! We need to think of a name! I'm really excited! xo Melissa

Maybe come up with your scope/site purpose/about the site first, and then figure out what to call yourselves You know, something like: "Each writer will go hear bands play and then write a blog entry with their impressions of the show, the venue, certain songs, etc. If you want to write about more than one band that you heard on the same night, write a blog entry for each. Preferably include one photo or video per band. Can take other photos and videos. Videos should be hosted on YouTube. Photos should be hosted on Flickr. Each writer will listen to new music when it comes out and write a blog entry with their impressions of the CD. Don't have to write about every band you see and every CD you hear. Blog entries should be at least two paragraphs long, but not longer than six paragraphs. Writers should write at least four band blogs a year and at least one CD blog a year." etc, etc... I like it when website names are influenced by titles of songs.

I think one word website titles are better and for the blog something to do with music would be good, though I do really like Kittens With Casts. Only problem is telling people that you're from the music blog "Kittens With Casts". The name doesn't really hold much clout as you being someone involved with music Edit to add: Okay, I bought kittenswithcasts.com for the heck of it, but the gmail account wasn't available I also tried to make a Twitter, but the name is too long. I also like "Stay In and Rock Out," but it's too long as well. I bought stayinandrockout.com for the heck of it. I also really, really like "Stay In Rock Out". Very catchy. I bought stayinrockout.com and made a Twitter and a Flickr and a YouTube account, as well as a gmail and yahoo account.

I don't think it has to be a gmail account (for kittens with casts) but it could always be kittenswcasts
I like stay in and rock out as well, thanks for buying up the domains!

First off, SARAH YOU ARE AWESOME!
hmm I actually like Stay In Rock Out a bit better. Though i love 'kittens with casts', i have a feeling that people will keep asking us if we write about abused animals lol.
I think Cds and Show reviews will be the easiest part, in terms of subject matter. I know a few connections that can get us free tickets, photo passes, etc. News will go on a day by day basis of course, which will definatly be updated a daily/few times daily.
Also, interviewing artists are a MUST. Either at show or through email, the possibilites are endless. They are way easier to get then you think.
We should also think about advertising. Sites like MOG and Indieclick that pay you to promote indie albums on their site. Not a bad idea. Oh and registering with the Hype Machine when we meet the qualifications, and Elbo.ws
To keep track though, we should also get in touch every week about what we plan to write about....say you want to review the new Bishop Allen record, but 2 other people have the same idea. What do we do with 3 reviews of the same record? lol
And I have this crazy ass idea that I was talking to SarahElephant about last night. Let me know what you think of it....You know how Daytrotter will set up a live session with a band? Well I was thinking more of the line of, say your favorite band comes to town (SSLYBY cough lol) and if we could possibly set up a little 'acoustic' time with them singing on the sidewalk, in a park, wherever. Just a couple of songs. I think a lot of bands would be into it. We could record video of it, even on a digital camera. The quality comes out really sweet actually. I love that sort of thing. I've seen similar stuff before, and I always find it amazing.

What do we do with 3 reviews of the same record? lol Why not have more than one person review an album? That's something I've wanted to see. Music reviews are all subjective, so why not have a "point/counterpoint" style pair of reviews? Well, anyways, all those ideas are pretty awesome! Especially the playing in the park/street thing.

the playing in the street thing is called a 'take away show' done mostly by the blogothique which is a french blog. they basically have the artist walk around anywhere acoustically and just film them. stephen malkmus did one and it was really great, i'll link it once I wake up from a nap. but since the street thing is done I think we should do exclusively parks/playgrounds, that would be really nice.
