I agree to an extent. BUT I have seen them a lot and would really prefer hearing all the new songs. Although I always enjoy Gwyneth live and I love House Fire(but they got that covered). Travel Song and Anna Lee i've heard less of and would switch out a few for those. I would also love Not Worth Fighting, Half Awake, Lets Get Tired, and a few from their demos/eps. Other than that, good choices from Pershing and Let it Sway.

I think the other two encore songs besides Some Constellation were Travel Song and Anne Elephant. What we need is the setlist from the other two CD release shows - tonight (Columbia, Missouri) and this coming Sat (Outland - Springfield, MO) because Phil or it might of been John said they were doing some more/other new songs at this Sat's CD release show. Will said they had JUST worked out how to make In Pairs/My Terrible Personality work right before their show this last Saturday. I'm pretty sure it was the first time they'd done it live. I bet as the tour goes on they'll be adding more Let It sway songs to the line-up, so they might be mixing up the other songs as well, especially as the tour goes on and they get sick of playing certain songs for a week or two.

Just got the set list from the Columbia show worked out. They only played an hour and there wasn't an encore because this was an outdoor show with very strict time constraints, but a good show none the less.
1) Banned (By the Man) 2) Everlyn 3) Heers 4) Pangea 5) The Beach Song 6) Made To Last 7) Glue Girls 8) Think I Wanna Die 9) House Fire 10) Back In The Saddle 11) Sink/Let It Sway 12) Dead Right 13) In Pairs 14) My Terrible Personality 15) Modern Mystery 16) All Hail Dracula

I went to the Bowery Ballroom show last night! This was my eighth or ninth time to see them and this was for sure the most rocking and solid show I had ever seen.
Mommyheads
Seriously awkward having such a talented band that has been around for nearly two decades be the first opener! They were seriously great. Every voice and every instrument were just impressive. You can really sense the influence they have on our beloved SSLYBY. Michael Holt gave a testimony to Phil claiming that he was a major factor in their reuniting. Very nice moment and seriously thankful to Phil for his down to earth nature. It really pays off no matter how not "rock star" it may seem. Every song was enjoyable and I was surprised they played my favorite song of theirs called Sad Girl because its so slow and chill. I did have a "whats wrong with the world" moment thinking about how underrated they seem to be but that didn't override how happy I was for them to just be on the bill.
Telekinesis
I stayed for the first few songs but needed a small break to drink a little and catch up with some old friends. They were pretty rocking themselves. The guy has a great voice. I will be watching their whole set in Philly this weekend. Mommyheads were more intricate and smooth and Telekinesis really changed that vibe to simple and rocking. I am a fan of both and diversity is always good in a show. One of my favorite moments of the entire night was on the last song. The lead singer from Nada Surf was just hanging at the show and Telekenis brought him and SSLYBY out for the final song. Matthew Caws and John Rob shared a mic. It was such a treat to see two of my all-time favorite song writers sharing a mic. Walla recorded a Nada Surf and Telekinesis album so the connection makes sense. Matthew sang all the high harmonies perfectly. Need a Nada Surf/SSLYBY show!
SSLYBY
Wow I was excited. I have listened to Let it Sway SO much and it was surreal hearing them loud and in person. This is the first time I have seen Phil start on guitar. It sounded great, they played great, and we all know the songs are amazing. I was trying to think about what separates this band from other pop rock bands or indie bands(hate that term). Maybe it is how genuinely nice they are. They are just special to me. Each song has so much personality and they all stand so well on their own. Telekenisis was great but song after song after song they began to sound uniform and similar to a lot of good but not special stuff out there. SSLYBY also have the Beatle thing going. You have two different yet complimentary writers that keep things fresh both on a cd and live. I am worried because, like the beatles, there songs are becoming noticeable different. Broom you could hardly tell, but Let it Sway is like their Rubber Soul or something. Its all good, I just do not want any fighting. haha I am sad they left off Critical Drain and Animal Kind and hope they add those to the Philly show as well as different old songs but what they did play sounded better than ever.
Setlist (Order a little messed up but should be close)

In Pairs You Could Write a Book Back in the Saddle Sink Dead Right Modern Mystery ------------------switch---------------- House Fire HEERS Think I Wanna Die Made to Last Banned By the Man Glue Girls Everlyn Anna Lee Pangea ----------------encore---------------- Cover song with members of Telekinesis Some Constellation Oregon Girl

Yeah it was little surprising that didn't play I am warm. There were two dudes in the crowd that made it pretty clear they wanted it played. They usually play it and also usually acknowledge requests but I bet they had an agenda(some executive or whatever) because they played Oregon Girl which they havent seem to be playing lately. Seems like NYC brings that kind of pressure. Probably promoters and label people all over. Either that or John Rob just wasn't feeling it. Also very likely. This may not be the case in Texas when they come down there. I am a Texan lost in NYC btu hope to go home(Houston) to see them in Austin in November if possible.

I know they tend to work off of a stricter setlist when doing the nyc venues. two years ago, i requested travel song before the set and phil said he couldn't do it at the nyc show, but since i was going to the D.C. in 2 days, he'd play it for me then.
a lot of people really wanted i am warm and powerful and critical drain wednesday night lol

This was my first chance to see them in Philly, and I felt like it was a short set, but it was very nice and the glow sticks vastly improved our dancing moves.

The set was short because they started late and had something booked afterwards and needed to empty the place of everyone underage. The "glow stick dancers" were one of the best parts of the show. They anchored the audience with their hand claps. The set list order didn't change much from the NYC show. They were a little under the weather but still put on a great show. Still fun anyhow! And we were the "glowstick dancers." haha
