I'm not crazy about wearing anything focused on myself, but something focused on the band or the forum would be really cool. Like if the colors of the merch matched the forum and eventual website and if the logos and pictures on merch also came from here.
Here's an example of what you might do with a shirt... Color: Oceanographer blue Front: A choice of one of ten different pictures in the style of the forum (fish, grumpy fish, rocket, spaceship, cat, sunglasses, etc). It would go over the heart area. Think of it as an un-logo. Back: You choose your own quote, as long as it wasn't longer than a certain number of lines or characters long. Font would be handwritten script or something that would match the style of the forum or website.
It would give us all warm fuzzies to see the forum come to life on real life clothes.
Examples: A quote from : -----------------With a front un-logo/drawing of: Kittens With Casts------------Cat with space helmet Oceanographer----------------Grumpy fish Modern Mystery---------------Space ship We Can Win Missouri--------Guitar ("and I wanna play guitar"!)

Examples: A quote from : -----------------With a front un-logo/drawing of: Kittens With Casts------------Cat with space helmet Oceanographer----------------Grumpy fish Modern Mystery---------------Space ship We Can Win Missouri--------Guitar ("and I wanna play guitar"!) Great idea, but there's a bit of a problem with that. Most shirt printing I've worked with will require a minimum number of shirts of a certain design. I haven't tried to get a single shirt printed up before, but I suspect it would cost a bit more if you find someplace that would do it. Also, while the theme is there, I would think having so many variations would take away from the idea of the shirts being a unifying mark of forum goers at the concerts. So in that respect and for the ease of printing, a single design should be decided on. Now, printing up and distributing the shirts are other issues. There are a lot of possibilities for this. The path of least resistance would be Cafe Press since they'd handle all the printing and shipping but I advise against it from my own experience with them. They're overpriced and their shirts fade far quicker than most. There is a printer who I've gone through before who does great work and is cheaper, however there's some negatives here as well. First, the money is needed up front. Then the order would have to be shipped out to everyone else. There are also minimums. If we wanted just one color on the shirt, we'd need to order at least 12. 2 colors 18, 3 colors 24, and 4 colors 30. The printing has to be the same on each shirt but you can change the type of doo doos. (For example, one order I had done with a design had several t-shirts and a few sweatshirts.) Price varies for kind of shirt and number of colors, but for example, a colored American Apparel shirt with one color printed only one side would be $9 per shirt. Two colors being printed makes it $9.50. Second side printing would be $10 and $11 respectively. Other shirts are cheaper (For example a Hanes Beefy order of shirts, those values would be cheaper - $8, $8.50, $9, and $10). But like I said, mixing of shirts is possible and most people could get a t-shirt of one kind and others could get, I dunno, baby doll style instead. All that's needed is the printing be the same. So yea, even the shirts could be different color if a design looks good on two different colors and there's a rift in which one people want. Working with this printer would mean we figure out a design, take an order of shirt types (color, size, style), have someone create said design at 600 dpi at so many inches, have one trustworthy person designated to place the order, upon receiving the cost figures, we'd have to gather the money (this, minus the shipping from the printer, can be figured out before hand), wait the ~two weeks (longer if it's around the holidays in the next few months) for the printing to be done and sent to the nominated person, from there, they can collect something like $5 per person to cheap into the original shipping and to pay for shipping of the shirt to the person who ordered it. Then as money is collected for shipping, the shirts can be sent out. Yes, it is a lot of work, quality tends to be but we'd be paying closer to that $10-$15 range for shirts (depending on the details). There's also the possibility that someone on the boards knows on good terms a printer who would be able to get the individualized designs and a discount had just made that explanation a moot point. The only reason I brought them up, and there's a lot of other printing possibilities, is that I know the quality of that printer. But another option is cutting out one shipping costs and somebody going to a local printer. We'd still have to do most of the other steps though. I dunno if anyone else has some connections or experiences that would work better, I'm just trying to provide what experiences I've had to the planning.

Yeah, you could get around the problem of not being able to do different shirts by assembling all the cool pictures that you've drawn that sort of represent SSLYBY songs or the forum all into one picture that could becaome the screenprint for the front of a shirt or a bag. You could always see if you could figure out how to work the website name into the design, sort of how the website I volunteer for has done some of their shirts... See how the shape of the screenprint isn't just boring ol' square, how the website name is tucked in below the image, and how other words (PotterCast) are built into the rest of the image, sort of making one cohesive design. This one features the the name of the website more than images, but I like the organic feel of it, plus the way the screenprint is also not just a round or square image with words on top or bottom. These screenprints used black, a light neutral (white or cream), and one other color (gray or yellow) that sort of matched the shirt color (gray or red). I think the Amercial Apparel shirts are really nice. They hold up well and are fun to wear.

Yea, a basic nifty bit of cost saving design - Use the color of the shirt as part of the design and then just have it as blank space in the printing. Like the use of red in that top image, although it can be done on a wider scale. For example, all the blue in this design is just the shirt: That 50ยข (or whatever) may not be a big deal to some, and it really depends on how you'd think it look. Like in Sarah's shirt examples, the gray on the cauldron might not needed to be printed (as it looks to be from that picture). I dunno though, it really depends on the design.

You know what, the next Batmobile SHOULD be a DeLorean. Bruce Wayne can afford to get one. Sliding this back into topic, they use the same printing place I was talking about: www.brunettotshirts.com/ I have a bunch of stuff printed by this guy and it's all really well done. So yea, just a possibility for the printer we can debate later. You know, after deciding on designs and all that.

Look, sometimes it takes me several hours to pick up on stuff. Like for instance, I just realized how dark it was, being night. Other times though, I am quite quick with the thinkingness-ness. (Sorry, been watching a lot of Sheep in the Big City. Oh, that Angry Scientist!)
Yep, the pricing isn't too bad. Again, it's all in the details that can make this more expensive. Also, the money being needed up front for a print job, there would have to be discussion as to how this is going down. Like, is this shirt run for just current members who want shirts or is there an intention to make an actual store for the site, in reach case charging more than bare minimum would make more sense so that the initial buyers would help finance a purchase of additional shirts for future board members to buy (This would also give reason to order the more and thus make the minimum order requirements for more colors).
This was so much easier to do with my last group shirt order since we were all physically present...

I know cost is always an issue. I'm willing to fork over a little extra for something that's going to look good while wearing and last awhile because of the pain of trying to have to design, order, etc...but especially the shipping costs which don't normally change based on the shirt cost . $$

I'm pretty sure the DeLorean itself is a Back to the Future reference at this point, the cultural icon it's become.

on the bright side if we need to like mass-produce shirts there are enough sara(h)s here to lower the cost
