So I've been talking to matt at polyvinyl lately and we're trying to get together an idea for SSLYBY going to Russia. I kind of pitched to him an idea for filming the whole thing and doing a kind of Grant Gee "Meeting People is Easy" thing for a limited edition "Boris Yeltsin goes to Russia" DVD release on polyvinyl. He seems like he's really into the idea, now I'm just waiting to get things squared away with phil and his input.
Do you guys have any ideas for this project? Anything at all would be super appreciated!

This is the best idea I've read all week. Bonus points if Grant Gee actually films it. And I think it desperately needs an acoustic set outside of Lenin's tomb.

yeah well i don't think grant gee can fit this into his schedule...the filmaking might be of yours truly. But nobody get their hopes up, i'm still trying to warm everyone up to the idea. It's probably not going to happen, but I want the guys to get at least something cool out of this experience. The acoustic set outside of lenin's tomb is a great idea, though! haha, they could play 'I am warm & powerful' or something...or 'I am cold and was powerful'

Phil's friend (and recent roadie/merch girl) is staying with me this weekend and mentioned the DVD idea to me yesterday after the show, so it sounds like the band has been talking it over and really like the idea. So exciting!

Congratulations, Nick! That is awesome! You should get some footage of the boys with a Russian phrasebook, desperately trying to learn the essentials of the language on the plane ride over.

wow - had i read this thread earlier i'd have titled myself "recent roadie/merch girl" it sounds so skanky though...i'd recommend filming when they think you aren't
you need to get them (and they will protest for fear they look dumb) in those random moments when you see how quirky they all really are - they're freakishly endearing and have a quirky that will people love them and not just their music... things like when one of them buys the rest of them naked juice and runs back to the van shouting: "WE GOT NAKED" - or when they drive off from the gas pump with the hose still attached to the van!...or race up large ocean side cliffs in oregon and then claim they've "ran up the side of america" -
