It's about time this is asked. Personally, I am think both albums are genius, but Pershing has that certain something for me.

ever since i obtained pershing, i've been on this pingpong debate with myself. the charm i found from broom was that each track was incredibly different while still making sense to be on the same album. i love pershing and every time i put it on, i am excited and happy. i believe i am attracted to more tracks on pershing as well, but i am going to say broom. maybe because i instantly fell in love with the band the second they stormed the stage with oregon girl back in january '07.
besides, i can't resist the cleverness and catchiness of pangea, the beautiful transition into i am warm and powerful, the connection i have with travel song, and the enigma that is anne elephant. man, now i have to go listen to the album again. haven't done it in full for a while.

now that i know both cd's more than i know some of my friends, i think i have decided that it really depends on the current season for which one i like more. I like Broom for fall and winter more and i like pershing for spring and summer more. i can't have a definite decision because it keeps changing.

Ray, I totally and completely agree. It really depends on the season, although I like them all the time, they just seem better in the certain season. I can't pick a favorite because it would be like picking a favorite child or something, haha.

ditto ray & sarah
now that its fall I am really leaning towards broom. it reminds me of last winter break when I bought a new bike and would listen to pangea in the chilly 65 degree weather on the way to my friends houses. so I'm pretty sure I like broom more but I'm thinking that will change come summertime.
I'M REALLY EXCITED TO ADD THE NEW ALBUM TO THE POLL!

Pershing makes me think of the amazing summer I had, driving to my friends' houses to watch endless amounts of movies and makes me think of all the great concerts I saw, including SSLYBY.
Broom makes me think of discovering what is now my favorite band and jamming to Pangea the first time I ever drove by myself, haha.

I'll be blunt: Pershing has more good songs. Sorry, it needed to be said. I'm all for the beauty of an album, the flow of the tracks, and all that jazz. But when it comes down to it, Pershing has it all.

I agree that it depends on the mood/weather of myself for me to decide which album I like better. Right now, with all this giant Michigan snow it makes me gravitate towards quieter, softer music, like Broom, in reference to the way it looks outside my window--white, pure, and pleasant. But, come summer, I love turning up the music loud and bouncing around to poppy hits like 'think I wanna die" and others on Pershing because it really embodies the way summer looks and the way it makes my mind feel---Happiness, infinite possibilities, green and pretty colors everywhere and nice smells, good food, free time, no school, lotsa fun and sunshine!
However, I don't think Pershing has more "good songs" . I am a huge supporter of quiet, lo-fi stuff. Sometimes I think carefully-crafted quiet stuff without a bunch of technology can say a lot more than something that's been formatted to a certain crisp professional sound/norm. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate Pershing, cuz I can, and I think it's such a great album, but I think both Broom and Pershing represent different qualities of great songs and they are both different sides to my favorite band.

It's gotta be Broom for me. Although I really love Pershing, Broom is the one that I can put on repeat for hours on end and never skip over a song. It's just magical. I also have to agree with everyone who feels like Pershing is a "summer" album. It reminds me of a bright, sunny June day.

I would definitely agree with newfnut. Pershing is certainly a "summer" album while Broom is more of a "fall/winter" album. I don't think SSLBY will ever top "Broom." It was just such a shock and such a solid album. One of very few where you never skip a song.

I listen to alternative recordings and songs not off Pershing/Broom so much that I sometimes forget to listen to those two for months at a time. I've been listening again the last couple days. I prefer Pershing over Broom, but like people have said they each appeal to a different part of me. I end up jumping up and down and playing air guitar a lot when I listen to Pershing, while Broom is my more mellow out and sigh and daydream music.

Although I love pershing, Broom is my favorite. I would have to agree that my mood mostly depends on which I listen to, pershing was def my summer album so whenever I listen to it now I am reminded of those good times. But Brooom is the best album to listen to the entire way through. And "I am warm and powerful" is the best song ever, in my opinon.

I have to disagree with most people on here about Perishing. Both are amazing albums, but it's something about how personal Broom is. Broom makes it feel like SSLYBS is playing just for me, and only me. I also have to disagree on the seasonal thing, I actually am the exact opposite. I start listening to Broom around Spring and right into the summer, because it's so light and breezy and soft that it just reminds me of summer.
Both albums are incredible, though (:
