Does anyone know the line-up of the band when they recorded it?

I've heard it through Springfield leakage. ;D I'll be buying it too, of course. And yes, it is thoroughly marvelous. I think the whole thing is awesome, but "Modern Mystery," "Some Constellation," "Think I Wanna Die," and "You Could Write a Book" make the best quadruple punch in tracklist history. If I'm driving somewhere and I know I won't have time for the whole album, I queue up those four.

Let's not talk about the album until it is properly released. I know those that posted have preordered, but too many will read this thread, download it illegally and not bother ordering it. Watch the promo video for Pershing and try to image how much is sucks to sleep in a van outside of Seattle. If you are a true fan you will keep it on the low down. If you are not a fan, do the right thing and pay the artists.

Let's not talk about what makes someone a "true fan," since none of us are qualified to do so. I don't see anything wrong with talking about the album in advance of its release date, particularly since loveless and I have both said we'll be purchasing it. But thanks for the condescension!

The more we talk about the album, the more people will download it. Let's talk about the new "Glue Girls" video, instead. Anyone that is 99% sure about anything must have the inside scope and we all know you can't keep a secret.

Are you capable of conducting an argument without including some kind of ham-fisted personal attack? I'm sure I'm just feeding the troll here, but Christ, that's irksome.
Your assertion that the 63 members of this forum and several dozen unregistered guests that happen upon it every day are more liable to download the leak of Pershing because of two people's enthusiasm for it is rather specious, if not complete bulldoo doo. I'm used to unbridled censorship from moderators on other forums, but getting lectured about what I am and am not allowed to discuss by a fellow member, let alone told that I'm not a true fan if I do discuss these things, is absurd.

yourmother, several websites already have reviews of the album. i have 5 of the 11 songs. i'll still buy it and would even if i had the entire thing. off topic, but watching all these sslyby makes me actually miss springfield and hangin with the boys. i love seattle though.

seapug, I hate the idea of the band not getting compensated for their album. They put up with a lot of crap touring and money would make some of their misery disappear. Saellys has no sense of humor, so I will stop posting.

The problem isn’t just posting about Pershing on this forum. It’s the people who learn about it that will download the album, post reviews on their blogs (awesome ones, because it’s awesome), and post their favorite tracks. By now 3/4 of the album is available on these blogs, as well as the knowledge that the album has been leaked. It’s too late to stop the momentum, but I see no reason to add to it.
I guess the biggest problem I have with talking so publicly about the album is for people who chose not to download it. If they are given an idea about which tracks are the favorites, when they finally get the CD, they’d have no reason to listen to Pershing straight though from track one. I think that’s the best way to appreciate this album, since, just like Broom, every track is amazing but the CD is best as a whole.
There shouldn’t be a problem with keeping the album’s leak on the down low. Let’s all just listen to it, enjoy it, and look forward to owning the real thing. Then on April 7th we can dress up as our favorite band members and start lining up outside our local record stores.
Saellys, I hope you don’t find my post “condescending”, and I also hope you will keep the leak on the down low. I don’t really understand the “true fan” argument, but we’re all fans if we’re members of this board. I’m sure a lot of us already have (and love) Pershing, and I hope we can just leave it at that until April.

imo more people downloading the album wouldn't be a problem- it will create more fans in the long run, who would eventually go out and buy it.

Not my words, but most certainly my sentiments: "Music doesn't just happen. It's made, note by note, beat by beat, by people who work hard to get it right. For the artist, the hard work requires not only a major emotional and intellectual commitment, but also long hours, intense concentration, and real financial risk. We like to talk about the imagination, soul, and courage involved in creative work. But making music is also about career and financial well- being. It’s about putting food on the table and covering the rent. It’s about making enough money to pay for all that equipment and rehearsal time, about keeping yourself afloat as you strive to succeed in a highly competitive industry. What gives the music value is not only that you like it, but also that you buy it. If you steal it, you’re not just stealing from a record company. You’re stealing from the very artists you love and admire."

Saellys, I hope you don’t find my post “condescending”, and I also hope you will keep the leak on the down low. I didn't find your post condescending, though the sentence I quoted was a little odd. I'm not distributing any leaks of Pershing and I don't plan to in the future, nor did loveless or I discuss doing so. Is everyone posting under the assumption that mere discussion of the leak on this forum will result in thousands of people downloading and not buying it? I maintain that the notion is ridiculous. As for dressing up like my favorite band member, dibs on Will. Not my words, but most certainly my sentiments: "Music doesn't just happen. It's made, note by note, beat by beat, by people who work hard to get it right. For the artist, the hard work requires not only a major emotional and intellectual commitment, but also long hours, intense concentration, and real financial risk. I think it's safe to say every SSLYBY fan (and, as chelsea pointed out, that means everyone on this forum) understands what the boys go through and how hard they work to bring us this music. But don't mind me--I have no sense of humor.

My posts about "true fans" and last post "music doesn't just happen" were not directed at you in the least but you are insisting on taking them so personally.
Do you really understand what they go through? Did you see them on tour when they were driving around the north east, in the dead of winter on treadless tires. On the last tour through, I personally gave them a crap set of jumper cables with a missing rubber handle that if they used them incorrectly they would have electrocuted themselves. This is more than hard work. This is risking your life for your art and fans. You would be surprised if you knew the cut they actually get after they pay their bills. It is difficult to know how much money a group loses exactly with illegal downloads but I am betting it is enough to make the changes needed to travel safely without hardship. I don't think we are on opposite sides on this.
P.S. Sanctimonious means hypocritically pious or devout. I personally have never downloaded anything illegally. I don't even know how.
